COMMUNITY LEGAL CENTER PROJECT

In 2002, "and Justice for all" established The Community Legal Center (CLC) through a specially funded capital campaign. This 30,000 square-foot building houses Utah's primary legal aid providers and serves as the state's hub for civil legal aid. The project is the first collaboration of its kind in the nation, and has won great accolades throughout the state and country.

By housing providers in one location, clients have easier access to legal services. Instead of trekking across town to various service providers or calling numerous phone numbers before accessing service, clients are now able to simply go up or down one story in the same building or have their call transferred to the appropriate agency.

Not only does co-location simplify access for clients, it also creates efficiencies for service providers. The agencies located at the Center saved a combined $444,541 in its first year of operation, a savings that allowed more funds to be used for client services. Owning a building has allowed partner agencies to pay only 42% of market rate rents for similar space. Additional savings have come through administrative and fundraising consolidation and by sharing a common phone system.

Agencies currently housed at the Community Legal Center include:

"and Justice for all"

Disability Law Center

Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake

Multi-Cultural Legal Center

Senior Lawyer Volunteer Project
