Our Mission
Utah Legal Services seeks to protect the rights of the disadvantaged and persons of limited means by legal representation, advocacy and education throughout Utah. ULS is a non-profit law firm providing free legal
assistance to low-income and elderly individuals in civil matters. We are an
equal opportunity employer. As a volunteer, you can get valuable legal training
and experience while contributing some of your time and skills to strengthen the
community. ULS trains volunteers to aid staff advocates in providing
high-quality legal services to our clients.
Volunteer duties
Some of the duties that volunteers will perform include: interviewing clients,
investigating cases, relaying advice, and consulting with staff attorneys. Qualified
volunteers may also be asked to assist in legal research, draft documents, help
with litigation, or represent clients at administrative law hearings. Licensed volunteer attorneys can perform the entire range of legal advocacy and are covered by our malpractice policy when assisting eligible clients.
Join us
We have limited volunteer opportunities and prefer individuals with college degrees and students with legal course work. Anyone interested in volunteering should send a résumé to the contact person listed below. Volunteers must be highly dependable and maintain strict
confidentiality. We ask for a minimum of about 4 hours each week per semester or 6 month period. Hours are flexible to fit around school or work schedules but must
be regular. Click here if you are interested in, or want information on volunteering for the Utah Medicare Education Team (UMET.)
Benefits ULS provides volunteers with the opportunity to learn about our community, gain
legal training and experience, associate with others who have similar interests, and obtain letters of recommendation for future employers or law school applications.
